    Fundraising Goal: Stroke Telemedicine Equipment

    "Care is Local"

    Stroke Telemedicine Equipment

    The Need: $156,000

    Sutter Health Matching Grant Challenge

Sutter Lakeside Hospital Foundation has teamed up once again with Sutter Health in a matching grant challenge to fundraise for a new Stroke Telemedicine program. Funds raised will purchase telemedicine equipment needed to connect with renowned stroke specialists at California Pacific Medical Center, a Sutter Health affiliate in San Francisco, to provide immediate consultations to acute stroke cases at Sutter Lakeside Hospital. With access to specialists care, more acute stroke episodes can be treated locally in a timely manner right here at our community hospitals. Your contribution to aid advanced technologies in treating stroke victims will be matched my Sutter Health.

    Quick Response is Essential

Time is of the essence in stroke care. The window of opportunity for stroke victims is short, and telemedicine will allow local physicians to streamline the process of getting patients to diagnosis and treatment. Through advanced telecommunication technologies, physicians in Lakeside will be able to consult with CPMC stroke specialists via remote video conferencing, helping local physicians to select the optimal stroke treatment for the best possible outcomes. With telemedicine technologies, CPMC specialists can study CT scans and the Lakeside emergency room physician can begin stroke treatment. This program will offer enhanced and expedited stroke care to patients in Lake County.

    Rural Healthcare, Aging Population

The aging population in Lake County results in greater and more complex health care needs. More than 20% of the county lives below the federal poverty line and an inadequate transportation system present additional challenges as many in this demographic use the emergency department for their care related to access issues. Rural area, aging population, inadequate transportation services and low-income population create a strong case for telemedicine services. Connecting patients to specialty care locally could:

    • Improve patient outcomes due to earlier implementation of necessary treatment
    • Increase local hospital volume, helping stabilize hospital finances
    • Improve patient satisfaction as families could support patients locally
    • Decrease transportation costs to patients
